The problem
Most women in our villages have no income of their own, and many have never used a bank account. Loans come from moneylenders at 5% a month. Without earnings of their own, women have little say in decisions about their children's schooling or health.
What we do
- 01
Skills training
Six-month courses in tailoring, beauty services and basic computers, with a certificate from a government skills council.
- 02
Self-help groups
Groups of 12 to 15 women save every month, take turns borrowing, and are linked to bank credit after a year.
- 03
Market linkages
Bulk orders for school uniforms, cloth bags and festive products from schools and companies in Darbhanga and Patna.
- 04
Financial literacy
Bank accounts, UPI, insurance and pension schemes, explained in Hindi and Maithili at group meetings.
Our group stitched 800 school uniforms last season. I earn about ₹7,000 a month now, and I paid my son's college admission fee myself.
