Education
32 after-school learning centres help children from Class 1 to 12 keep up in school. We also pay fees, uniforms and books for children who would otherwise leave.

The problem
In the blocks where we work, one in four girls leaves school before Class 10. Families take children out when a fee is due or a sibling needs minding. Children who fall behind in reading by Class 3 rarely catch up.
What we do
- 01
Learning centres
Two hours every evening with a trained teacher from the same village. Classes are small, with no more than 25 children, and grouped by learning level, not age.
- 02
Fees, books and uniforms
We pay the school costs directly for children from families earning under ₹10,000 a month, so no child leaves over a fee.
- 03
Attendance follow-up
Our field workers visit the home of any child who misses three days in a row, and sort out the cause with the family.
- 04
Board exam support
Extra weekend classes in maths, science and English for Classes 9 to 12, with past-paper practice.
My father wanted me to stop after Class 8. The centre teacher came home twice to talk to him. Now I am in Class 10 and I want to become a nurse.
